From an exceptional measure to a massive resource: the rise of Habeas Corpus among detained immigrants

The return of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States has been marked by several measures that have directly impacted the lives of immigrants. In the midst of this situation, arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have surged, with a particular feature: many of them involve people with no criminal record. And while the government increases immigration detentions across the country, a phenomenon is gaining strength in U.S. courts: more and more detained immigrants are turning to Habeas Corpus to challenge the legality of their imprisonment.
