The exploitation of immigrant workers, both documented and undocumented, remains a reality, but above all a structural problem of the American labor market. Although there are temporary visa programs that promise to regulate foreign hiring and teams of inspectors tasked with monitoring compliance, the reality for thousands of workers continues to be marked by wage theft, threats, grueling workdays, and retaliation when they try to report abuses.
