More cases than answers: get a complete picture of how the immigration justice system is overwhelmed in the U.S.
Millions of people are waiting for a decision within the U.S. immigration system, but that wait is not experienced the same way by everyone, and behind each number there is a life on hold that depends on the state, the judge handling the case, and even the country of origin. What may be resolved more quickly for some can take years for others. This investigation starts from a central question: Why does the wait keep growing? To answer it, I will cross-reference data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).
